In some jobs, you need to communicate with more than one person by sending documents back and forth. But one thing that makes you concern, is when the documents are sent, you worry that someone will edit the content in the text. In other words, you want your text to be unavailable for others to edit.
Luckily, there’s a way to help you get rid of that concern, called document locking. And in today’s article, I will step by step guide you through this tip, for those who want to better protect their files.
I. How to lock parts of a word document
1: Open your Word file.
2: Place the cursor at the position where you need to split the text into 2 parts: the lock part and unlock part. Then click on Layout, select Breaks and choose Continuous.
3: Then go to Review and select Restrict Editing.
4: The Restrict Editing window appears. Check the box Allow only this type of editing in the document, then, select Filling in forms, and then select Select sections as shown.
5: The Section Protection box appears. You should check at the box of the section you want to lock, for example I’m going to block the first section, so check on Section 1. The unlocked part leaving unchecked at the section box. Then click OK to set up.
6: Click on Yes, start Enforcing Protection.
7: Now you must create a password whenever you want to edit the locked part of the document. Fill in the box the password, reenter it then OK to save.
And this part of the document has been locked. You will not be able to edit unless you know the password.
II. How do I unprotected word document?
When you want to remove the document locking in Word so you can edit as usual, click the Stop Protection button.
Then enter password in the Unprotect Document box, OK to unlock.
The part of the document has become normal.
III. Lock a paragraph in word.
1: First you must create tab Developer in your Home tab. If you don’t have it, click on File then go to Options.
2: At the Word Options box, click Customize Ribbon, then check Developer and click OK to apply.
3: Select the paragraph to lock. Then go to Developer and choose Rich Text Content Control.
4: Next, choose Properties.
5: Then set the caption in Title, check the Content Control canot be deleted box and Content canot be edited. Finally select OK.
6: Click on Restrict Editing. Here check the box Limit Formatting to a selection of styles. Then, click Yes Start Enforcing Protection.
7: Create password the same as we have discussed above. Then OK.
Note: When locking a paragraph by this way, people can still copy the paragraph but not editing it.
IV. Remove paragraph locking in Word.
Similar to how to unlock part of document, just click on the Stop Protection button and enter your password in the Unprotect Document box. Then click OK to confirm.
