In general, the Recent Files/Recent Documents feature is quite useful for quickly access many different documents while working. But sometimes it also offers less privacy. Well then, there will be a way for you to disable it right here.
I. Disable recently opened files in Word with newer version
To see the Recent Files, go to File and choose Open. In tab Recent, you can view all the files opened recently.
Now, to turn off the display of these files. Do as the following:
Step 1: Go to File and choose Options for 2010 and upper versions, or Word Options for lower versions.
Step 2: In the Word Options box, click Advanced. Then look for the Display section.
In the Show this number of Recent Documents section, you can see the values for the recent active sessions, which are set to 25 by default.
You can increase that value for more quick document access if you are using your own PC.
Or if you want to turn it off, no more Rencent Files display, just change the value to 0. Then OK to save changes.
You can no longer see any Recent Files being displayed.
II. With Word version 2003
Although this version is quite old and is now not used by many people anymore, but if you are using Word 2003 version and wonder how to do this tip, here is the guide.
Step 1: First, click on Tools and choose Options.
Step 2: In the Options box, go to tab General and change the Recently used file list value to 0. Then click OK to save your settings.
