Design side gate is the most generally of mold design, and used well in multi-cavity mold. Its shape is a rectangle or semicircle, and placed at side of the molded product. It can use for a product with small side or middle thickness because gate structure is easy and don need high quality.

1. Advantages and disadvantages of side gate.
A. Advantages.
+ Side gate made easily.
+ Mold marking is easy, mold structure is basic.
+ Melt plastics fill in to the cavity easily.
B. Disadvantages.
+ Has to add gate cutting process.
+ It is cause of scratch, deform after gate cutting process.
2. How to select gate position?
To easy for gate cutting, we will make side gate at parting line of cavity.
3. How to design side gate?
1. Side gate don’t have chamfer.
Side gate has dimension as picture above.
+ L: Thickness of runner.
+ R: Width of runner.
+ T: Width of side gate, it is usually 1~5 mm.
+ I: Thickness of gate, it is usually 0.6~0.7 thickness of product.
+ C: length of gate, it is usually 0.8~1.5 mm
2. Side gate have chamfer.

+ t: Thickness of product.
+ T: Thickness of gate.
+ L: Length of gate,
+ W: Width of gate.
+ Draft angle of gate is usually 10~30 degree C.
